When I first read this chapter, I sucked my teeth and huffed, “One step forward and two back, eh Seungho?”
But the glory of this chapter is Nakyum, let us be clear.
I know it’s the favourite hobby of the POTN fandom to infantilise Nakyum, and treat him as though he’s forever this scared boy who is incapable of speaking up for himself. I often wonder if they’re reading the same story I am, because Nakyum is a liar, but he’s always spoken up. He’s been afraid as fuck of Seungho, but never to use his voice in that way.
His fears have lessened, true, but it has only made his voice grow, but it was never a tiny squeak to begin with.
In this episode… Nakyum roars. Because, what the fuck you mean Seungho? All this bacchanal you causing, and every time Nakyum pushes you a little, you turn into Mr Nobleman I Am Too Good To Tell You My Weakness. Meanwhile constantly pushing and making demands on Nakyum to become more than a lowborn, to be more than a lowborn, to be what you need in every moment you need it.You’re still doing that selfish shit, Seungho!
And our baby Nakyum, calls it and Seungho out. And he is 1000% right.
Of course, bad news rides on horseback in this story… so here comes Mr Kim to tell us Daddy Yoon is at the family shrine.
The moment that struck me, was Seungho’s immediate reaction. Fear. And because they’re so tapped into each other regardless of this newlywed fight they’re having, Nakyum notices everything.
NaKyum woke up, put on his big boy pants, pounded his power bottom juice and went for Seungho.
Yas bb, go off! Ask those questions, demand answers and a more level playing field! You know what you want and you’re not afraid to ask for it.
Seungho…. Sit yo ass down and learn some humility. The actual audacity to even say it out loud, to speak such things into existence, have you no shame?
You never wanted a fool and asking it of him now is weak and a cop out for the feelings you aren’t ready to face. Just saying you want and like NaKyum is not enough, nor is buying things in the hopes of exchanging it for affection.
Actions are what he asked for, and now it’s words. You are so close to losing him, and we can all see that you know it. But, if I step back and try to get a different perspective, perhaps he just needs some sleep before NaKyum hits him with the deep questions.
Those last few panels of their chat showed a man on the verge of madness, a single misstep away from falling into the void.
Then, to add some icing on this shit show of a day, let’s toss a homophobic father into the mix! Because why not, my emotions aren’t shot or anything.
