It’s easy to call Nakyum’s wailing in this episode grief over Inhun alone. But you must look a little deeper.
As the episode opens, Nakyum arrives back at the Yoon estate and finds the place awash with servants, and a dead body in the courtyard. Even though he is informed that the body is that of Dukjae, who we saw Nameless handle (off screen) because he had a big mouth, he is still shaken to his core.
But as we know Min has been bullying both Jihwa and Nameless, this body has turned up wearing Inhun-looking clothes. So Nakyum’s got it in his head, that Seungho might have done something to Inhun.
: sideeye :I am not going to lie: I am seriously pissed that Inhun isn’t actually dead. But now, I have Min dying to look forward to. For the first time, byeonduck annoyed me with the switch and bait in this episode.
I hate to think she’s keep Inhun in reserve to bring him back later on to cause more drama…. because ya’ll: This is already getting so damn pitched, my nerves are beginning to fray around the edges.
Poor Nakyum is falling apart… despite being told it’s Dukjae, he still worried about Inhun. I think though, that instead this outpouring of grief is at the idea that Seungho is capable of such a thing. That it turned out to be Dukjae is almost of beside the point. I think this is frightening him so badly, that he cannot contain it. And Seungho is not there to answer his questions. To look in Nakyum’s eyes and tell him the truth, and for the truth to be seen in those eyes. Nakyum is still a little too innocent… the maid’s didn’t lie about that. The gossiping maids aren’t helping either, supposing that Seungho did it. The thing is, Seungho’s past is still haunting him. His past bad behaviour, all of it conspiring… or maybe being conveniently used. That he’s been changing isn’t enough to offset what must have been years of bad behaviour, sullen and dissipated living, and general indifference to others.
Nakyum is having nightmares… and even though Seungho appears pleasant, the image shifts to a faceless corpse. I find it interesting that he never sees the face of the body. So it’s easy to understand his confusion and fear. The sheer number of changes he’s been through is quite maddening for anyone, far less a young and untried man.
But I have questions though: Why would Dukjae be dressed in a noble’s clothes? And Seungho is damn right to try to find the person who found the body. That’s a clue to who is really behind all this.Seungho bold facing it in the authority’s office, is quite right to to say a peasant who ran away and died in a noble’s clothes is of little import to him. Quite right indeed.
This whole thing stinks of Min.
i’ve already stated that there is no way Seungho killed anyone. I wrote in last week’s review:
For the record, I don’t believe Seungho killed Inhun. I’m prepared to eat my words, but I just don’t think he came this far to backslide as much as that. Plus, regardless of how jealous he may have been, Seungho respected Nakyum’s feelings, more than once about Inhun.
I still maintain that. The reason for it just isn’t there. He could have killed Inhun a hundred times before now, but he had already begun to win with Nakyum even before Inhun left. He had zero motivation to do it. So this is a set up… and Nakyum is resisting, but is so frightened. I wish he could have been a little stronger, believed a bit more and that Seungho would come home already.
I have never been so annoyed with Nakyum as when he disappears from the Yoon estate and appears in front of Inhun’s shack. I wanted to jump through the screen and shake the shit out of this boy… why are you so careless Nakyum? Again your feelings for Inhun are making you stupid.
Screams internally.
*throws self into the void*
How to even begin, especially when I want to pretend I never even read this to begin with. Thanks ever so much Heena for your assistance in doing nothing more than traumatizing Na-Kyum.
The amount of stress it takes to cause the body to physically react, especially so violently, is heart wrenching to even think about. Plus it doesn’t help that somebody got her damn facts wrong and it was not Sir Trash Can who was found but that waste of a manservant.
So, Na-Kyum is losing it for nothing at this point. And just like my will to live at this point, he’s gone again, slipped through everyone’s fingers and about to get snatched from some place he shouldn’t be in the first place.
Oy vey.
